Women in Rock Christmas Playlist

I have to admit, I’m not a big fan of Christmas music. I mean how many different versions of the same song can you do? And how many times can I take hearing the same 10 songs over and over again throughout the season? However, these Women in Rock help rid me of my Grinchiness and into the holiday spirit.

“Blue Holiday” by The Shirelles– Okay, so maybe not the cheeriest holiday song but damn, it’s great! It’s a song I would want to hear at my favorite diner, Blue Jay, while drinking a cup of coffee and watching snow fall outside.

“Merry Christmas Baby” by Wanda Jackson & The Continentals– What a sultry Christmas song! An instant classic for you and your honey to enjoy while sipping on some spiked eggnog.

“The Christmas Song” by The Raveonettes– Working retail, this is definitely a song/video I can identify with. They seem so sleepy and uninterested in holiday cheer!  Christmas is coming, you apathetic freaks.

“2000 Miles” by The Pretenders– This song hits close to home. Having the one you love far away during the holidays is really hard. Luckily, Chrissie Hynde gets that and wrote a song for all of you long distance lovers.

“Little Drummer Boy” by Joan Jett– Nothing says Christmas like Joan’s badass version of this classic. It appeared on her debut album and lets you rock out to a Christmas anthem with no shame of a lame holiday cover.

“Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” by Cat PowerFor all of you classic Christmas lovers, here’s a great version of this song. With Chan Marshall’s warm entrancing voice, you’ll feel sentimental yet joyful with family by the Christmas tree.
