This Happened on Instagram
Just before Thanksgiving, in some magnificent wrinkle in rock-legend timespace, these four smiled, a camera went click!, and The Best Instagram Picture Ever was created.
Allison Wolfe (Bratmobile), Alice Bag (The Bags), Shirley Manson (Garbage), and Marissa Paternoster (Screaming Females) nearly broke the internet with their collective badassery (and coolly mismatched stripes).
Different versions of the photograph appeared on Instagram, but we love the adorable smiles and barely-contained excitement reflected in this post from Alice Bag (@alice_bag), who wrote: “I think we should form a barbershop quartet.” YES, PLEASE!
Marissa Paternoster’s version (@marissapaternoster) was captioned “hot damn all of these people have saved my life at different times,” while Shirley Manson (@garbage) wrote, “Hanging with some bad ass bitches tonight.” And, Allison Wolfe (@realbabydonut) said simply, “Gal pal hang.”
One result of this gal pal hang was not just magnificent Instagram content but also guest vocals and a video for Bag’s new single, “77.” Hanna and Wolfe star alongside Bag in colorful wigs and dresses in a cheeky send up of gender-based pay discrimination. (Women in the U.S. make 77 cents for every dollar a man made for the same work. Latina women make even less: 58 cents for every dollar a white man makes.) “I make 77 cents on the dollar! It’s not fair and it makes me wanna holler!”
